The Franklin Initiative offers a variety of programs to the Bloomington school, educator, and business community. There are also several volunteer opportunities within the Franklin Initiative that are open to the community for participation. Work opportunities for juniors and seniors followed by a tuition- free Associate's degree from Ivy Tech, upon successful completion of required work hours. See school counselor or contact the Franklin Initiative to apply. (Available for 11th and 12th grade students)

An annual event that recognizes educators for their commitment to their profession, making a difference in a student's life and partnering with the community. The Franklin Initiative also recognizes educators, business representative, students, and financial supports for their support and participation of the Initiative. Business and community members are invited into the classroom to discuss their career, education requirement for their occupation and how academic classes are used in their workplace. Contact the Franklin Initiative to participate. (Available to all K -12th grade educators)

Educators and business representative pair to team-teach a lesson. Lesson plans are developed collaboratively by the educator and business representative. This is a curriculum enhancement activity designed to incorporate real world experience into the classroom. Contact the Franklin Initiative to participate. (Available to all K-12 educators)

A summer internship opportunity for educators designed to show educators how the academic skills they teach in school are used in the workplace. Educators receive a stipend for working one forty- hour workweek with a local business in their field. Contact the Franklin Initiative to participate. (Available to middle and high school educators)

Business representatives come into the schools and discuss best practices for getting and keeping a job. Some of the topics include resume writing, keeping your job, mock interviews, etc. Contact the Franklin Initiative to participate. (Available to all 9th - 12th grade educators)

Opportunities for high school seniors to spend a semester in the workplace learning about careers and soft skills necessary for success in life. See school counselor to apply. (Available for 12th grade students)

Opportunities for students to participate in short term job shadowing experience in a field of interest to them. See counselor or contact the Franklin Initiative to participate. (Available to 7th-12th grade students)

Experiences for middle school students to learn about personal finance, standards of living, and what it is like to pay bills on a budget determined by their selected occupation. Currently, all four middle schools are participating. (Available to 7th and 8th grade students)

Franklin Internship students are eligible for a scholarship up to $500. Students are nominated the Internship teachers based on their performance in the Internship class. Scholarship recipients are chosen by a panel of business representatives. Contact the internship teacher for more information. (Available only to 12th grade students enrolled in the Senior Internship Class)
